1977/78 - division two
about the programme
For the 1977/78 Division Two campaign, we saw something never before seen on an Albion programme cover; a colour photograph. The same picture, of Brian Horton in typically combative pose, remained on the cover for the whole season. We had another price increase, from 10p to 15p, and inside, the 16 pages gave readers the usual mix of news and articles, along with stats and the usual adverts. Opposition information was spread across the centre pages, with an Albion player profile and match action also included. The programme cover is an iconic image, made even more special by events on the pitch, that saw Albion narrowly miss out on promotion to the top flight for the first time in our history. Three extra programmes were required for League Cup fixtures, with two for FA Cup ties against Scarborough and Notts County.
